Who We Are 

The Los Angeles Urban Teacher Residency (LAUTR) is an intensive program that leads to earning a teaching credential and master’s degree at California State University Los Angeles (CSULA). Designed to equip future teachers in secondary Math, Science, and Special Education to close the achievement gap in high-need urban schools, this 18-24 month graduate-level program offers an opportunity for teacher residents to work alongside outstanding mentor teachers for an entire school year.

Credential Pathways

Single-Subject Credential in Math or Science for secondary level 
This credential pathway prepares you to teach math or science in secondary levels. Get equipped with an abundance of tools, strategies, and resources within our specially designed co-teaching apprenticeship model. Obtain your credential in 12 months and be ready to serve as a teacher of record.
Education Specialist Credential with STEM Specialization for secondary level
This one of a kind credential pathway prepares Residents to teach students with mild to moderate disabilities. This program strand goes the extra step in preparation by integrating a highly sought after STEM specialization in either Math or Science and a year-long co-teaching apprenticeship working alongside a mentor.
Merged Elementary and Special Education (2018)
This innovative credential pathway prepares Residents to teach multiple subjects in elementary and special education classrooms. Residents will gain valuable teaching experience in a co-teaching apprenticeship working with a mentor for an entire school year and be equipped to serve as teachers of record in 12 months.

  1. Integrate theory and practice in a blend of graduate-level coursework, project-based experiences, and collaborative professional learning through highly supported cohort communities.
  2. Foster equitable and democratic learning and classrooms that we seek to build.
  3. Bring innovative, research-based practices into classrooms and schools for equity, high expectations, and excellence for all students as our goal.
  4. Produce teacher leaders who commit to transforming the schools in which they teach.
